Autumn Break

Autumn Barbecue
Saturday's Autumn barbecue was a success despite the sporadic showers, and was attended by Ambrit students and their families, who came to enjoy the food, the games, and just being together. We wish to thank all the organizers and helpers for a wonderful day.
The barbecue earned 2000 Euro which the Friends of Ambrit will devolve to the Suffyan Koroma Foundation, which the Koroma family will establish to support the families of children with sickle cell anemia in Sierra Leone and Africa at large.

Library Book Fair
Thanks to the Ambrit community for supporting the Goodbooks fair.  Free books worth 840 Euro were earned for the library as a result of your purchases.

If there are used books on your shelves that you would like to get rid of, please save them for the used book sale that will be held in connection with the Holiday Bazaar. Earnings from last year’s used book sale allowed us to purchase a new rug for the early childhood section of the library. It’s beautiful – thank you!

Italian International Library
A meeting with our Italian teachers was held to discuss a strategy to have the Italian International Library fully functioning as soon as possible.  We are purchasing the software needed to automate the library and the Italian department will collaborate in cataloging the books and setting up procedures for staffing and running the library.

World Food Day
October 16th is World Food Day.  This year's focus is World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy.  Ambrit students will be examining global warming and the biofuel boom that are now threatening to push the number of hungry and undernourished higher in the decades to come.  Each class at Ambrit participates with a curriculum project to be shared with other classes.

Also in connection with World Food Day, we are continuing to collect canned goods for a welcome center of the Comunita' di Sant'Egidio in Trastevere for the poor and homeless.  There is a box in the atrium where you child can place your donations.

International High School Open House
The annual presentation by international high schools in Rome organized by Ambrit for Grade 8 students and their families is scheduled for Tuesday 28th October 18.00-20.00 in the theatre. Representatives from St. George's British International School, Marymount International School, St. Stephen's, The American Overseas School of Rome and the Rome International School will be present at the Open House to provide you with information about their schools. The event is organized to help families make the right choice of a high school for their child.
Halloween
Friday, the 31st, the children in Primary and EC are welcome to dress up in a costume. They should be able to go to the bathroom by themselves, so nothing too intricate.  Please remember that Ambrit is a peaceful school, so no play guns, swords or knives please!
Parents are invited to our EC Halloween Sing Along at 9:30 in the theater. Please come and join us. You are welcome to dress up too!

Primary is also organizing a Bake Sale and Pumpkin Carving Contest - details to follow. All proceeds will go the the Haiti Cherie fund to feed street children in Port-au-Prince.

Middle School students will be participating in a Sports event during the day. There will be a 1 Euro fee per student to be donated to Haiti Cherie.

Early Dismissal
Please be reminded that on Friday, October 31st, students will be dismissed an hour earlier than usual at 14.25.  Afterschool activities will therefore begin and end one hour earlier.  This adjustment to the schedule will provide the faculty with the planning time needed to implement Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate.
Commemorative Assembly
On Monday morning, the students from Grades 1 - 8 attended an assembly to commemorate the life of Suffyan Koroma.  The funeral will be held on Friday, October 10th,  at the church of Santa Maria dei Pellegrini in Via Bernardo Pasquini 34 at 14.00.
