THE FIELD TRIP
Wow! I just came back from a field trip to Mt Vesuvius. You should
see it. It’s huge! And there is still lava in it; I mean there
is smoke coming up. But it’s dormant! But still it could erupt
again! There is something that I liked and didn’t like. I want
to tell you about them:
I liked the mountain's old and new height. The
mountain's new height is1132m; before it first erupted it was 3000m.
It’s obvious that it could be 1132 m after 16 eruptions! But
it’s still unbelievable that after 16 eruptions it’s
staying in its place.
I liked the amphitheatre at Pompeii. It was in
good shape and it was like a mini stadium. And it could hold 20,000
people. But still it’s kind of little for 20,000 people. To me
it was the most important structure after the forum.
I didn’t like all that people dying at
the eruption; I mean more than a quarter million people died! Even
the land's shape changed. As the shore of Herculaneum moved further,
it made a place for people to live on. It was miracle.
I didn’t like the ancient houses, etc
being destroyed. In Pompeii to find a 2 storey house or villa you
need to look very carefully. I mean all that history was destroyed by
the volcano and I didn’t like that.
That is what I liked and didn’t like.
Isn’t it amazing to be in a 1921 years old place? All those
people, republic, soldiers, etc isn’t it amazing?
