December 2006

Dear Families,

Dear Prep I Parents,

We look forward to seeing Father Christmas and giving him a gift for children supported by the Arche' Association here in Rome. Thank you for sending in a small present.

There will be no homework given over the holiday break.

We are concluding our unit on Farms to Cities. Your child will be bringing home a folder of the various projects completed. Please look over his/her work. The trip to the farm and our projects, we hope, helped in understanding how food products arrive from farm to shops; the projects were also FUN!

We have altered the topics somewhat for December and January. The order has been changed. In December we are looking at families (Family Tales) and then in January when returning from holidays, we will start our unit on Fairy Tales. We will look at who makes up a family and your child's place / role. We will also talk about changes in families as children grow up. This Friday for Show and Share we are asking you to send in family pictures and pictures of your child when he/she was little. These will be kept for a timeline project, but then returned to you. THANK YOU! If you have any pictures of your child celebrating special events (birthdays, a holiday) those are welcome too!

We have covered the following letters and sounds:
a, m, f, i, t, r, b, g, s, o, p, d, u, c, and h

a as in alligator, m as in m and m's, f as in frisky cat, i as in igloo, t as in tick tock, r as in race car, b as in ball, g as in gorilla, s as in snake, o as in octopus, p as in popcorn, d as in door, u as in up, c as in cat and h as in hot

In Math, we have been working on number formation, recognition of numbers to 20. When we return in January we will review beginning addition and subtraction.

Ambrit's HOLIDAY BAZAAR is this Friday, December 15th. Our time to visit the Bazaar is 10:00. Please send in a bit of money in an envelope with your child's name. They will be able to buy little gifts, and a snack.
We will also have a holiday party on Monday, the 18th with our Buddies. If you wish, could you send in a small amount of party food/drinks or Christmas candies/chocolates for that day. Thank you as always!

The last day of school is Wednesday, December 20th. School finishes at 3:30 as usual. There are after school clubs that day. Please send us a note and call Ms. Gigi regarding bus changes or if your child will be picked up that day.

Please note that in January we teachers will help your child learn to tie his/her own shoe laces. We will have some in school practice, but we wanted to ask you to please work on it over the holiday if your child does not yet know this skill. Let's all try together!

We have had a wonderful start to the school year and look forward to the next period from January 8, 2007 on. We thank you for all your support and wish you a wonderful vacation and holidays. Thank you for your kind words throughout these months.
