S.O.S LETTER

Dear reader,

My name is Tommaso and I am 11 years old. While I was on my way to San Salvador from Kenya passing through the Indian and the Pacific Ocean on a big sail boat called Bandergust 1 I was thrown overboard by a huge wave in a ferocious storm. And in all the mess nobody noticed so I was left struggling in the water trying to follow the boat.

The next morning I found myself stranded on a deserted Island with much vegetation. Now I am on this Island. Here there's plenty of fruit, water, animals and most of all "fish"! So I can retain myself very lucky as I am. I think this Island is a bit like a tropical rain forest surrounded by beach and ocean.

I've been here for almost a week and I have survived until now. But I am desperate to go home.

There are also many dangers here like: poisonous snakes, scorpions, tarantulas and all other kinds of tiny poisonous creatures and I have to admit that I am quite scared of them. But the biggest and scariest animal I've seen so far was a shark, a big white shark! So I really don't know how I even survived in the water the night I fell off the boat.

I've found a small but comfy cave where I sleep on some leaves that I've gathered. Another amazing thing is that I've been able to make fire with some flints that I found. The great advantage about fire is that it keeps me warm, it keeps the animals away and I don't have to eat raw food. The fire has become my friend and my only friendly companion and every night I sit and watch it dance for me with those wonderful colors, I just sit for hours until it drives me to sleep. And in the morning he is sleeping too so I just stir up the ashes a bit and give him breakfast (twigs), he wakes up and starts dancing again. When I fell overboard I was navigating through the Pacific but I'm not sure where exactly. This is a rough sketch of what I think the Island looks like:

As you can see my cave is very close to what I call the "Watch Hill". There I stay on the look out for ships and danger.

The day I went overboard I believe was the 4th of November and maybe I should even mention that it's the year 1900 just in case it takes you years to find me. So you know exactly how long I've been here. If you are wondering how I got my pen and paper, well I always keep a note book and pen in my pocket and the bottle I found washed up on the shore. My hopes are good but I am still concerned about my future and especially I can't imagine what my parents must think.

Sincerely,

Tommaso

P.S. Hope you find me before it's too late.
