The Right to Food

by David

The right to food means to me that everyone must have enough food to not go to bed hungry. Right now about 800 million people do not have that right. They are mostly women and children. Every 3.2 seconds dies of hunger related causes, showing that more people die of hunger than wars. Not only developing but also developed countries like USA and Britain still have millions of hungry within their borders.

The main problems that cause hunger are natural disasters like floods, droughts and hurricanes, wars and insects. Mozambique was hit especially hard with floods after a hurricane struck.

Wars are not helping because whenever WFP or other organizations ship in food some warlord will pick it up and have nice time while the people whom it was meant for have to work to get it. A reason why mama Africa is hit so hard is because they are so close to the equator and the rich countries are burning so many fossil fuels which only adds to the heat near the equator, the other reason is that there are not many educated people.

There actually is enough food to feed everybody but it is mostly the inability to reach or buy food. For instance in India many of the people which lack food live in such remote areas that they can’t reach the necessary foods.
The thing which shocks me most is that out of the 40 poorest countries 36 actually export food to developed countries. Luckily the percentage of malnourished has dropped a third since 1960.

The way to stop hunger is to all work together. Like I already said that the wars in the world are not helping stop hunger. I think the countries which could help the most USA, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, Germany, Most European countries and Japan. I believe in a world without hunger and that it is possible to stop hunger sooner if there weren't any wars.
