The Right to Food
by Hellin
To me, the Right to Food means being
able to eat, being able to see your family grow up, let people all over
the world have food, and to be able to grow food and eat it. But to be
able to get somewhere in the world and in your life, food isn't the
only solution. What about the right to education? The right to work? To
be healthy, happy, free! What does right mean? Justice, fairness; to be
allowed to have something. We are all equal. We all have rights.
But if there I enough food in the world, why are people dying? Floods,
hurricanes and other natural disasters can destroy crops. Insects and
other animals can eat a whole field of food. Some people just
don’t have access to food. We should all have a chance to access
to food. Grow it, hunt for it, or earn enough money to buy it.
So much food all over the world is being wasted. While some starve,
others throw away enough food to feed many, many mouths. But that can
be changed. Even one person could contribute something, and hunger
could be eliminated. I believe that if everyone did contribute, we
could do something to help the poor and hungry people of the world.
"The Great Tablecloth", a poem by Pablo Neruda, is about hunger in the
world. The world with a huge tablecloth covering all countries, covered
with food, or a plate the size of the moon with food on it. I really
liked that poem, because it really has feeling in it. It really makes
you think about the world and the hunger in it.
“For now I ask for no more than the justice of eating.”
