Physical Education is a required subject for all levels
nursery through grade 8. The overall goal of the program is
to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to enjoy a
physically active, healthy lifestyle.
At the Early Childhood level, students meet twice a week for
thirty minutes. The development of efficient gross and fine
motor skills are emphasized as students take part in
developmentally appropriate activities. Students are also
engaged in activities that develop basic levels of strength,
endurance, and flexibility. In addition, students learn to work
safely in group and individual movement settings as they
participate in physical activities that are both challenging and
enjoyable.
At the primary level, students meet twice weekly once for
thirty minutes and once for forty-five minutes. Instruction
includes vigorous physical activity, information about physical
activity and fitness, and time to enjoy the use of skills and
knowledge.
Students are guided through a series of developmentally
appropriate experiences and activities that promote a desire to
engage in physical activities, promote a sense of self worth,
encourage co-operation and self-control, and lead to choices that
promote a healthy life style.
At the Middle School level, students meet twice weekly for
forty-five minutes. Students participate in a wide variety
of physical activities and experiences that promote the mastery of
the core skills and knowledge introduced at the elementary
level. Students will explore and apply information, as well
as participate in activities that empower them to assume
responsibility for their own lifetime health, wellness, and
fitness.
