BENVENUTI / WELCOME TO THE

FRIENDS OF AMBRIT ASSOCIATION (FOA)

The Parents Association, Friends of Ambrit, welcomes all families to the new school year. All parents are members of the Association, and involvement in its activities is both rewarding and meaningful.

Its purpose is to raise funds and promote social interchange between parents, teachers, friends of Ambrit, and students. Annual events include the October Family Barbecue, the Holiday Bazaar, the International Dinner, Family Evenings and the Mayfair.

Monthly meetings are held regularly throughout the year. All parents are encouraged to attend and to participate actively in the Association.

PARENT REPRESENTATIVES
To perform its various functions, Friends of Ambrit relies on two kinds of parent representatives:

1. Special Representatives manage the many extra-curricular events that enliven the Ambrit year for students, parents and teachers. Description of these opportunities for parent and student involvement may be found in the following pages. Parents are welcome and needed participants in the wide variety of school events - please indicate your interest in any of the following specific volunteer opportunities (see form attached) or a general interest in helping when you are available.

2. Class Representatives are chosen at the first parent/teacher meeting at the end of Sept.ember. The Class Representative has the ability to choose an Associate Class Liaison by October 31 of the current school year. Class Representatives welcome new families to Ambrit and serve as hosts and hostesses at various school functions. They represent the class at meetings of Friends of Ambrit, act as liaison between the class and the school and recruit parents to volunteer in the wide variety of school activities.

It is also their responsibility to:

a) Represents the parent in her/his child's class at the open meetings of Friends of Ambrit (FOA) and those of its sub-committee, the Ambrit Support Committee (ASC), or designates another parent to do so.
b) Host one parent "get together" at the beginning of the academic year.
c) Co-ordinate the holiday and end of year gifts to the homeroom teachers.
d) Organize volunteers to assist with class outings, bake sales, costumes, etc.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Please indicate your interest in any of the specific volunteer opportunities on the attached form.
Ambrit Support Committee (see above)

Ambrit Barbecue
Opening the school year, this event is a great opportunity for students, teachers and parents to meet in a less formal setting. Volunteers are needed to act as hosts, waiters, cooks (manning the grill), and to pour the wine!

Classroom Assistants
Get involved with the children - read books, sort puzzles, assist teachers in the absence of an assistant teacher, or help with an art project.

Family Evening
Bring parents and students together at the school for such events as a Valentine Dance, Story Telling or a Puppet Show. These are examples - new ideas are always welcome.

Fund Raising Events
The Holiday Bazaar, the International Dinner & Auction and the Mayfair are our major fund raising events and they rely heavily on the special talents, resources and ideas of the parent body. Here is your chance to participate in hosting, baking, programming, producing, sewing, ticketing, decorating, or other tasks that must be accomplished to ensure success.

General Store
Organised by Friends of Ambrit for the benefit of the school, the store puts on several sales per year. Popular items include Ambrit T-shirts, gym clothes, tote bags and pencils. Parent volunteers are needed to set up and dismantle the store, make posters and sell the goods.

Library Mums
This is a wonderful opportunity to become part of the Ambrit family. The heart of the school, the library relies on its "Mums" to assist students in checking out books, organising videos, and in reading stories to the younger students. The"Mums" also help with the successful annual Book Fair.

Music Department Assistants
A vital component of Ambrit, the Music Department needs music lovers to accompany the choir on excursions; assist in the productions of musicals, costumes, sets, and more; schedule, organise, serve refreshments, and sometimes .... sing !

Parent/Student Alumni Association
This provides an opportunity to stay in touch with the ever-growing Ambrit Family. The Association contacts Ambrit alumni around the world, keeping them informed on Ambrit life and helping to maintain an alumni volunteer database.

The success of all these activities depends on participation. We hope you will feel these activities are worth your time. We are sure you will find the camaraderie of fellow parents and participation in your child's school a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
