- Friends of Ambrit is the parent/teacher association
of Ambrit International School; all Ambrit parents are
automatically members. FOA helps to improve the
school and enhance the learning environment for Ambrit
students through various fundraising and community
building initiatives. Participation in FOA
activities is both rewarding and meaningful, and the
association welcomes all families to be as involved as
possible.
-
- FOA's purpose is to raise funds; to promote social
interchange among parents, teachers, students, and
friends of the school; and to contribute to the community
of which Ambrit is a part. Annual events include
the Fall Barbeque, the Holiday Bazaar, the Spring Gala
and Auction, and the May Fair, as well as various
community and charity initiatives.
-
- Monthly meetings are held regularly throughout the
year. All parents are encouraged to attend and to
participate actively in the Association.

- PARENT VOLUNTEERS AND REPRESENTATIVES
-
- To perform its various functions, Friends of Ambrit
relies on help from parent volunteers and
representatives.
- Parents are encouraged to attend monthly FOA
meetings and to volunteer to help at various FOA events,
but volunteer opportunities are available to everyone
even if attendance at monthly planning meetings is not
possible due to other commitments. FOA's parent
volunteers help to manage the many extra-curricular
events that enliven the Ambrit year for students,
parents, and teachers. Parents are welcome to
assist and participate as much as they are able in the
various FOA activities throughout the year.
-
- In addition, FOA relies on parent class
representatives to facilitate communication between the
FOA and parents of the school community at large.
Class representatives can volunteer at the first meeting
of Friends of Ambrit in September and with their teacher
at the beginning of the year. Class representatives
represent their class at meetings of Friends of Ambrit,
act as a liaison between the class and the school, and
recruit parents to volunteer in the wide variety of
school activities. They also help the teachers with
whatever organizational activities may be required in the
classroom. Again, for those who are unable to
attend all monthly meetings, participation as a class
representative is still encouraged, and FOA officers will
help to fill in any missed information.
-
- FOA monthly meetings are a forum for discussion of
issues that are of interest or concern to the parents of
the Ambrit community. We encourage people to raise
their issues either at the meetings or with the FOA
officers by phone or by e-mail, so that they can be
brought up and discussed at meetings.

- YEARLY FOA EVENTS
-
- Ambrit Barbeque
- Opening the school year, this event is a great
opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to meet
in an informal setting. The barbeque is held at the
school each fall and is a time for students to play and
socialize on the playgrounds, as well as a time for
returning parents to catch up after the summer and for
new families to make new acquaintances and get to know
the school community. Volunteers are needed to act
as food servers and drink servers, as well as to staff
the bank. In addition, we ask parents and students
to donate food for the salad and dessert bars.
-
- Holiday Bazaar
- Each year in December, FOA hosts a full-day holiday
bazaar at the school, at which vendors from outside of
the school as well as some of our talents from inside the
school display their wares. Children are given time
during the day to shop for holiday presents, and parents
and friends are welcome at any time of the day as well.
There is a used toy sale (very popular with the
children), and lunch is available. Volunteers are
needed to help decorate the school and set up the bazaar,
as well as to serve food during the lunch hours.
-
- Spring Gala and Auction
- FOA's biggest fundraiser of the year, the Spring Gala
and Auction is an opportunity for parents to get together
for an evening out. In past years, the party has
been hosted at various private homes in Rome, and there
has been a DJ and dancing until late in the
evening. There is both a live and a silent auction,
with items for every price level, such as private tours
of treasured Roman sights, weekends at agriturismi and
apartments abroad, and art objects. Many Ambrit
classes also make their own contributions to the auction,
so that parents can bid on the children's creative work.
The auction raises money for projects to improve
the school, and those attending FOA meetings can vote on
which projects to fund. In the past, funding has
been approved for Smartboards in the classrooms, the
building of the International Library, an outdoor
classroom for the early childhood classes, improved
playground space, and other such valuable enhancements to
the school. A percentage of Auction proceeds are
donated to a local charity.
-
- May Fair
- May Fair, the last FOA event of the year, is an
opportunity to celebrate the school year and enjoy each
other's company. Each year May Fair has a theme,
and the teachers arrange games for the children to play
where they can win prizes or points. Everyone eats lunch
at the Fair, and the adults can relax and socialize while
the children enjoy all of the games and activities.
As at the barbeque, volunteers are needed as food servers
and drinks servers, as well as to staff the bank.
Teachers may also ask for help with their games, and we
ask parents and students to donate food for the salad and
dessert bars.

- ADDITIONAL FOA INITIATIVES
-
- In addition to the four major events listed above,
FOA helps to organize other activities during the school
year. For example, in the past, FOA has organized
used clothing drives and pajama drives to benefit local
orphanages; the collection of funds to assist earthquake
victims; and has helped organize used book sales for the
benefit of the library. In addition, we are open to
any initiatives brought to our attention by parents,
students, and teachers.
