Khublei! (Greetings!) this is Tintin writing to you all the way from Shillong, Meghalaya , India. First of all, on behalf of the children of the William Lewis Boys Home, I send you the warmest regards. As most of you do not know me, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mebanda Blah or simply Tintin to all who know me. I happen to be one of the volunteers who is helping out with both the William Lewis Boys Home in Mawphlang and the A.W. Thomas Girls Home in Shillong. As such, I have been given the responsibility of corresponding between the sponsors and the KJP Assembly ( the institution which is currently running both homes) You will be happy to know that the money you so generously donated for the boys home, Euros 12000 has been converted into Indian currency, amounting to a staggering Rs. 6,14,241 ! For this, the KJP Assembly and the children here will forever be indebted to you for your kindness and generosity. All this money will be utilized for the well being of the boys here. The last time Mr. Mullane and Kong Anita were here they told us of how you had each bought a symbolic brick to raise funds. So just like the little paper house you had built in Rome, the Boys Home is also slowly coming into shape with each brick that is laid, only this time it will be real bricks, for a real house for young boys to live in. Years ago, I once heard the story of Cinderella. Like many children, I often wondered if each of us had a Fairy Godmother to make every wish come true as I'm sure most of you did. Well, I'm glad to tell you that for the boys here, each of you is their Fairy Godmother. Your magic wand is your kind heart which inspired you to reach out and transform a simple wish of poor little boys thousands of miles away into a reality. It is because of you that each boy will soon have the security and warmth of his very own bed, the joy of living in a house spacious enough for so many inmates. Rainy days would no longer mean sitting in bed with a dog-eared book but relaxing in a library full of wonderful books and comfortable chairs and tables. Lunch and dinner too, promise to be noisy and cheerful just as they're meant to be, as for once both big and small boys will get to share one dining hall. Last but not least, each boy will go to bed each night knowing that somewhere out there, in a land which he cannot even imagine, live the kindest people in the world, and best of all, they are "his" friends. For all this and more, the KJP Assembly along with the boys once again thank you for everything you have done. We also wish you an exciting, fun filled Summer Holiday! With Warm Regards Tintin |
