The focal point of this year is the voice and Grade 1 Choir. Listening, singing, creative movement and getting to know the Percussion Family and playing percussion instruments are incorporated into the established units.
Grade 5
Units: Singing in Harmony, Developing Notational Skills, Developing Rhythm, Simple Form, How do we listen to music? Balance in Performance/Playing and Singing Together, Preparing a Winter Recital, Orff Technique, The Guitar, The String Quartet, Folk Dance and Music, The Musical, Listening To and Responding To Program Music.
Grade 8
Units: Developing the Changing Voice, Singing in 3 and 4 Part Harmony, Developing Ensemble Performing, Developing Notational Skills, Sight Reading in Practice, Score Analysis, Study of Western Styles of European Music, Responding and Appraising, Organizing and Presenting a Recital, The Musical/Opera, World Music and Movement, Improvising and Composing, Personal Research Project (own choice, to articulate with the Italian Program).
Grade 2
Units: Your Voice, Music Around Our World, Music Notation, Dynamics, Winter Recital, The Musical, Making Music Together/The Brass Family, Moving With Music, Composers, Let's Make Music.
Grades 6 and 7
Units: Controlling the Changing Voice, Developing Notational Skills and In Performance, Sight Reading, Introduction to Ensemble Performing, Developing Listening and Appraising Skills, Studying Form in Music, Presenting a Winter Recital, The Musical/Opera, Word Music and Movement, Simple Improvisation and Composition, Following listening maps and scores, Personal Research Project (own choice, to articulate with the Italian Program)
