It is hard to find words to express my humble gratefulness to the Friends of Ambrit for the miraculous efforts that turned the school atrium into a winter wonderland. Thank you Melissa and your merry elves.

The winter recitals followed the joyous holiday bazaar. The music department, once again, continues to warm our hearts with musical treats.

Giving
I am thrilled with the outpouring of generosity from the Ambrit community for our charities. Thousands of euros have been raised for the boys and girls orphanages in Shillong, India,  the refugees that meet at St Paul's within the Walls and the casa famiglia in Rocca di Papa. Not to forget the mountain of gifts that were brought to Santa yesterday in early childhood. The gifts were given to the ARCHE' Association whose volunteers organize a holiday party for children in Rome who are affected with AIDS.
Well done!

I believe the children's effort this holiday season, to make a brighter day for others, will have lifelong meaning for our young learners. The shear pleasure of giving is clearly part of their childhood. My own journey in giving started (was it so long ago?) in 1957, when my 4th grade teacher told me about UNICEF and Halloween and how we could "trick or treat" for children around the world who were less fortunate than ourselves. It was the same year when we learned
at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church how to give to other children on white gift Sunday as did our EC students when the youngest children in the school brought their brightly wrapped gifts to Santa on Tuesday.

On Friday your child will be given a small UNICEF gift from the director. Good things come in small packages. The gift will provide hundreds of children with polio vaccinations.

Professional Development
In November 2011, Peggy Scalise and Eleni Dimmler attended a learning support conference at the International  School of Brussels. Participants came from several international schools in Europe as well as from schools in the Middle East and in Africa. They had opportunities to observe a broad variety of  learning support strategies ranging from co-teaching in the mainstream classroom to individual and small group instruction. They were able to share Ambrit’s program which includes  Learning Support, English as an Additional Language and Guidance which are all under the umbrella of Student Services. The teachers were able to share their various referral procedures and modifications and accommodations that are provided for all students in the Learning Support program.  The Learning Support Department is always grateful for the professional development opportunities that Ambrit provides.

Music Department
Message from Carolina Johansson:
One of the greatest experiences for me has been living in Italy and working at Ambrit, s
omething I will always remember more than anything else as a life learning period.

Unfortunately it is time for me now to inform everyone that after two and a half years at Ambrit, I am leaving
for a new challenge back in Sweden. My background is within production and setting up of plays and musical drama. I have been offered a chance to work in this field, which will involve children as well. Such opportunities do not come often and I had to make a difficult choice.

I thank all my students and the Ambrit staff for this wonderful time and, while leaving for my new journey in life, I wish all of you the best for the future.
Please keep in mind: life is full of surprises and one should always love and appreciate what life has to offer and what is awaiting around the corner.

Bel Paese
If you are in Rome during the holidays, be sure to have a look at the Bel Paese link on our website and stop in to visit some of the shops, businesses and services offered by the Ambrit community.

Best wishes to all our Ambrit families for a peaceful holiday season.
